PhD Research
My PhD Research focuses on gender provisions and provisions for women in ceasefire agreements. I leverage both quantitative and qualitative methodologies in my dissertation project. I will conduct fieldwork in the US at the United Nations, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
My research builds on work with Siri Aas Rustad at the Peace Research Institute Oslo, including our policy brief.
Our working paper is titled “Introducing the Provisions for Women in Ceasefires (PWiC) Dataset” (Obermeier & Rustad).
My second working paper is titled “The Impact of Mediators: Uptake of Provisions for Women in Ceasefires, 1989-2023”, which is also based on our original dataset.
I am also working on a meta-analysis of the gender and peacebuilding literature. This will form part of my kappe and (hopefully!) be developed into a standalone paper.
Rule 39: Briefers at the UN Security Council
Louise Olsson, Ina Lyftingsmo Kristiansen, and I examine how briefers in the United Nations Security Council can be used to understand diplomatic practices and informal power. We created a new dataset capturing nearly 5,500 briefer-appearances between 2000 and 2023.
Our working paper is titled "Diplomatic Practices and Informal Power at the UN Security Council: Introducing the Rule 39 Dataset” (Obermeier, Olsson, & Kristiansen).
Our second working paper is titled “Civil Society and Women’s Representation at the UN Security Council Under Rule 39” (Obermeier & Olsson).

Women Ambassadors on the UN Security Council
Together with Nora Stai, Torunn Tryggestad, and Kaja Sparre Bakke, we investigated the impact women ambassadors have on the working methods and culture of the United Nations Security Council. Our book chapter can be found here.
